On Monday, December 2nd, Artpèges and Lemon Auction invite you to an extraordinary auction at Drouot, where treasures from both international and French music history will be within reach for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Among the headline lots: the very first live guitar played by Stevie Ray Vaughan, a unique instrument he used at every concert in Texas. Beatles fans will be thrilled by an original matrix from Ringo Starr for the iconic “Peace and Love” sculpture, displayed in legendary locations such as Beverly Hills and Liverpool. Additionally, a rare selection of Beatles vinyls will be featured, including the legendary Butcher Cover and the highly sought-after black label released by Odéon.

The auction will also pay tribute to French music history with Norbert “Nono” Krief’s Melody Maker, the legendary guitarist of Trust, alongside a retrospective of Michel Ocelot’s work through the pieces of his longtime composer, Christian Maire.

Purchased in September 1976 from the renowned South Austin Music store, this 1965 Stratocaster (likely from October) became the instrument of a young Austin guitarist’s learning journey. He discovered the guitar alongside his friend, none other than Stevie Ray Vaughan, who would frequently play on this very instrument, approximately 163 times according to the owner’s sworn affidavit.

During this period, Stevie Ray Vaughan and his student became close friends, sharing countless hours of playing together. Stevie used this guitar to teach his pupil the timeless blues classics: Stormy Monday Blues, Thunderbird, Voodoo Child, Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Sweet Home Chicago, and many more. Stevie Ray Vaughan also played this guitar during numerous performances and jam sessions at two iconic Austin clubs, then still in their early days but now regarded as blues legends: the Rome Inn, which opened in 1975, and Antone’s, which opened in July of the same year.
